Hello! My name is Allyson Casey and I am a marine biology major with a minor in marine environmental law and policy! I transferred to TAMUG last fall and i'm really enjoying all of the classes and opportunities I've gotten to experience so far. I have never snorkeled before so learning all of the research methods we will be implementing as well as acclimating to my fins and snorkel have proven pretty difficult so far, but i'm hopeful that i'll get the hang of it by the end of our two week trip. The week before our plane ride has been a bit of a brain exercise with the deep dives (pun intended) into research papers along side lectures on mangroves, food webs, and everything in between. Im ready to put what we've learned to the test and start collecting some data!
I strongly believe that the experiences and personal growth from this adventure we're all going on is going to build up my confidence within the academic and scientific fields that I will be spending most of my life within. (not to mention getting to collect conch data for NOAA) I'm nervous, anxious, excited and most importantly, ready to open this new chapter of life and side quests and i'm glad it's going to start with all of you cool people! 😛
