- Day 2/ Tuesday May 19:
+Fist benthic survey!!! Crazy start!!!
While doing the survey I encounter a nudibranch on my quadrant!! how cool is that 😝 besides that little creature I was able to find 4 alive queen conch!! and a baby barracuda. I feel it was a fantastic first day for a benthic survey.
In the afternoon we had a tour of the university, this really open my eyes about doing my masters' degree in here. After talking with other student from the university and their projects I realized all the opportunities and environment close to home by being hispanic.
-Day 3 / Wednesday May 20:
Today we reconducted our first mangrove survey, general trees with plot and also seedlings surveys. It was fun to get lost in all the branches and leaves of the mangroves.
After measuring some mangroves and getting hit by some branche, we head to the water to do another Queen Conch survey, we found some, but this was outside of our perimeter for the survey. But still was exited to encounter them for the first time.
-Day 4 / Thursday May 21:
Today we conducted our second benthic survey, but this time
was on a new ecosystem. and on the survey I found 4 empty Queen Conch shells that I’m planning to take home as a gift
for my grandmother and for myself.
Something new to us was seagrasses core. We collected 2
cores of sea grass for later examination, during this process we have to hammer a pvc tube on the seagrass. when i did mine when i was hammering the pvc something came out of the sand, I got so close to cut on of its arms. But thankfully was not like that.
