We had a great first full day in La Parguera! We headed to the grocery store at 7:30am as a team of 5 to shop for 12 people for 2 weeks is a challenge but we were ready for it. We left 2 hours later with 4 full carts and our mission was complete. The other half of the group headed to the lab at University of Puerto Rico - Isla Magueyes to deliver and setup our sampling gear. The team is working really well together and it is great to watch them all develop new friendships during this journey. We hiked up to Tsunami point which is a great lookout on Magueyes for our lunch and to enjoy the view (see pic below). Next up we had three incredible speakers from Dr. Travis Courtney's Biogeochemistry + Ecology Research Group (BERG lab) including Ignacio Rueda, Carolina Melendez and Janluis Rivera-Ramos. This afternoon we were able to get in our first snorkel at Cayo Caracoles which felt wonderful!! We explored seagrass beds and Rhizophora mangle prop roots that were teeming with life. Tomorrow we head to Mata la Gata and Enrique. Buenas noches!
