Steps Beach

Monday was one of my favorite days. Team and I headed to Steps beach along with Aliyah (one of our lovely boat captains). We snorkeled, took pics with the exquisite scenery, and put our toes in the sand. Listened to some upbeat tunes and after some exploring snorkeling around the complex coral structures, we made some sandwiches and basked in the dappled sunlight under the trees. Exploring the tide pools was very fun, and we even saw a little eel swimming in them. Some people spotted a manatee but what caught my eye in the water were these Blue Jewel Damselfish that had these striking, vibrant blue spots. I am getting closer to a project idea and am very set on damselfish and their presence around dead vs. live coral regions that we have surveyed. I have seen damselfish everywhere and I admire their fearless personalities and they have been spotted at every site. I am sad to see the finish line so close but I am also excited to share my observations and data with others.
