SHRIMP!!!

Today while working in the mangroves, I had a quick but unforgettable encounter—I spotted a bright yellow mantis shrimp! At first, I didn’t even realize it was a shrimp. It looked exactly like the sacrificial yellow leaves in which mangroves use and accumulate excess salt in.. But then it moved, and I realized it was a little predator! He even posed for me.
It’s these small, unexpected moments that make fieldwork so exciting. They remind me to slow down and really look around, because you never know what fascinating creatures are hiding in plain sight.
