Hasta Luego La Parguera :'(

I woke up today with a pinch of sorrow in my heart. I will miss this beautiful island, specifically this lovely town we have called home for the last week. On my daily walk, I admired and said goodbye to the troupials, mockingbirds, mourning doves, grackles, and bananaquits I have befriended. Last night, the team and I went on a bio bay tour into a little bay/cove area with only one entrance and exit, making it the perfect catch-all bowl for the dinoflagellates to call home. These rad organisms emit a light when disturbed, which comes from a chemical reaction of the enzyme luciferase and the molecule luciferin. We played in the water like little fairies dancing in the glitter. I watched my feet below, and I would do a slow step into the water to watch my foot turn to fairy dust the deeper it went. What an experience I will always cherish and think back to throughout my life. I am sad to leave this place and all of its enchanted wonderment, but I am ready to see my family and pets again. With the shells I have gathered, I will always have a piece of La Parguera with me. I also want to state my gratitude to both professors, Dr. Steichen & Dr. Matich, for helping us and mentoring us with the utmost patience, and above all, I am appreciative of their positive attitudes in any situation we encountered, good or bad. Big shoutout to Matthew as well for being the designated gate opener/closer and also making coffee early in the AM when most of us are still trying to wake up. Thank you to Faryn, Zoe, Amelia, Reina, Jenna, Caitlyn, Emma, and JJ for being teammates I can count on. It was a pleasure to spend more time with everyone, and we have made bonds and connections that will be remembered for quite some time.
