Today we started with our data collection for the trip. We started the day off at Mata La Gata, There were so many mangroves in one area, I couldn't believe it! We did mangrove sampling; we were able to identify the species of mangroves, the height of them, and the canopy width of the mangroves. Once I finished doing the data collection, I took a little walk at one of the openings of the beach and walked around the perimeter; it was definitely a beautiful site to see. Once we all finished with mangrove data collection, we went snorkeling and did a benthic survey near one of the seagrass beds. It was a difficult time trying to do the benthic survey due to the current that was pushing me away from the quadrant. I ended up finding 100% coverage of seagrass in all my quadrants. We then went to the lab after and did data analysis on the seagrass cores. It was a little difficult to follow the vocabulary on the data sheets and match them to the blades and the shoots of the seagrass. Today was stressful trying to get all the data into the Excel sheets. Today was overall fun, but I definitely need to think about being more efficient with lab protocols in the future.
